In response to our smaller families and single person households the Lismore modular house is a collection of small pods arranged around a generous courtyard and gardens.
The timber framed pods of 6600 x 3600 dimension can be prefabricated and include high raked ceilings and storage/sleeping lofts to increase their flexibility.
Owners can order living pods, bedroom/bathroom pods, office/bathroom pods, or two bedroom pods to suit their needs. All bathrooms and kitchens are sized to allow access for all.
It is imagined that users would modify their internal walls and joinery to suit their changing needs over time.
The pods are linked by wide verandah walkways that offer shade and ventilation in the warmer seasons and are covered by wide roofs to suit the summers with high rainfall.
Sliding walls and screens are pulled out of storage and fitted to enclose the verandahs in the cooler months.
Owners can customise the appearance and climate control of their houses by self building bamboo, timber, or laserlite screens over the verandahs and external walls. Landscape and deciduous trees and climbers will further improve environmental control.
The open U shape plan suggests a big food garden as the heart of the home with living for 4 to 6 people around its edges.
